Handmade soap isn't difficult, but it does have one boundary:

Don't make it live in a puddle.

A good bar of soap needs airflow and drainage between uses. If it sits in standing water, it'll soften faster, disappear faster, and generally act like it's given up on the world.

That's not a product flaw- that's soap being trapped in an ogre habitat, and soap does not have layers.

Here is the easy version:

• Use a soap dish with drainage.
• Let the bar dry between showers.
• Keep it out of direct spray when you're not using it.
• Don't store it flat on a solid shelf where water pools underneath.
• Rotate bars if you use more than one scent- keep the ones you're not going to use out of the friggin' shower.

That is it. No elaborate ceremony required.

A drainable soap dish, soap saver, or raised rack makes a big difference in the lifespan of your soap bars. The goal is simple: give the bar a chance to dry out instead of slowly melting into a dramatic little puddle of slimy regret.
