Ingredients Glossary
The oils, butters, sugars, salts, clays, and base materials we use to make bath, body, and fragrance products that
smell amazing and behave themselves. Mostly.
Real Materials
From shea butter to turbinado sugar, this is where the useful stuff gets explained without turning into a chemistry lecture.
No Miracle Claims
We’ll tell you what an ingredient does in a formula. We will not pretend soap can fix your life; that’s what coffee and boundaries are for.

Oils - Lightweight
Sweet Almond Oil
INCI: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil
A lightweight oil used to add softness, slip, and a smooth conditioned feel to bath and body formulas. Sweet almond oil is be rich in oleic acid, with linoleic acid and naturally occurring vitamin E also part of its ingredient profile. We use it where we want a polished, comfortable finish without dragging the formula into greaseball territory.
Apricot Kernel Oil
INCI: Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil
Apricot kernel oil is rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids, and it naturally contains antioxidant-associated compounds such as tocopherols and phenols. In our formulas, it brings a gentle, lightweight feel without making a dramatic entrance.
Fractionated Coconut Oil / MCT Oil
INCI: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
A lightweight liquid oil derived from coconut oil. We love it for its caprylic and capric triglycerides, which give it a light, silky, low-grease feel. We use it where we want slip, glide, and a clean finish, especially in oil-based or fragrance-related formulas.
Grapeseed Oil
INCI: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil
A lightweight oil used for smoothness and a less heavy finish. Grapeseed oil is rich in linoleic acid and antioxidant-associated compounds, including vitamin E and polyphenols. In our formulas, it brings a light conditioned feel without trying to steal the whole show.
Jojoba Oil
INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
Technically a liquid wax, but everyone else calls it an oil and we’re not here to make things weird. Jojoba oil is rich in wax esters (what did we just say...), with naturally occurring vitamin E and sterol components depending on sourcing. It adds a smooth, elegant feel and plays nicely in formulas where we want slip without heaviness.
Sunflower Oil
INCI: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil
A lighter plant oil used for smoothness and a soft conditioned feel. Rich in linoleic acid with naturally occurring vitamin E depending on the type and processing, we use it where we want a smoother, less heavy formula feel.
Oils - Rich
Argan Oil
INCI: Argania Spinosa Nut Oil
A richer oil used in small amounts when a formula needs a more luxe, conditioned feel. Argan oil is commonly said to contain oleic and linoleic fatty acids, vitamin E compounds, sterols, and antioxidant-associated components. Translation: it has a good reputation for a reason, but we still use it like grownups, not like it fell out of a magic lamp.
Avocado Oil
INCI: Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil
A rich, cushiony oil used when a formula needs more body and a substantial conditioned feel. Avocado oil is high in oleic acid and may contain naturally occurring antioxidant-associated compounds such as tocopherols, carotenoids, and phytosterols, depending on refinement and sourcing. We use it for richness, softness, and a little “oh, she fancy” energy.
Olive Oil
INCI: Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil
A classic soapmaking oil used for a mild-feeling, conditioning bar when balanced properly. Olive oil is rich in oleic acid and contains naturally occurring antioxidant-associated compounds such as tocopherols and phenolic components, depending on grade and processing (we use the cold-pressed kind). In soap, it helps build a gentler, creamier character, though it is not in any hurry. Very Mediterranean of it.
Butters & Solid Fats
Beef Tallow
INCI: Tallow
A traditional soapmaking fat used to help create a firm bar with a dense, creamy feel. We value beef tallow for its fatty acid profile- especially oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids. In soap, we care about what it contributes to the finished bar: structure, hardness, and that old-school creamy lather people rediscover and then act shocked about. We source ours locally in Oklahoma and render and triple-filter it ourselves. Very old-school. Very useful. Slightly controversial at brunch.
Cocoa Butter
INCI: Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter
A firm butter used to add hardness, structure, and a creamy feel to our soap and other products. It's rich in stearic, palmitic, and oleic fatty acids, with naturally occurring antioxidant-associated compounds depending on processing. In formulas, it brings body and firmness, plus that subtle “chocolate-adjacent but behave yourself” personality.
Cupuaçu Butter
INCI: Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter
A rich Amazonian plant butter used for a soft, cushiony feel and formula body. Cupuaçu butter is rich in oleic and stearic fatty acids, with phytosterols and antioxidant-associated components depending on sourcing. It gives formulas a plush, creamy feel without needing to yell about it. Fancy, but not exhausting.
Mango Butter
INCI: Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter
A firm, creamy butter used to add body, structure, and a soft conditioned feel to our formulas. Mango butter contains stearic and oleic fatty acids, with naturally occurring antioxidant-associated components depending on refinement. It brings richness without feeling quite as heavy as some other butters, which is useful when we want luxury without butterbrick behavior.
Shea Butter
INCI: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
A rich butter used for creaminess, structure, and a conditioned feel in our products. It contains stearic and oleic fatty acids, along with unsaponifiable (won't disappear in the soapmaking process) components and naturally occurring tocopherols. In soap, it helps create a richer-feeling bar with a creamy character. It is not a miracle- it's just really good at its job.
Soapmaking Essentials
Castor Oil
INCI: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
A thick, glossy oil we use in soapmaking to help support lather and improve the feel of the finished bar. Castor oil is notable for ricinoleic acid, the unusual fatty acid that makes it behave differently from most carrier oils. A little goes a long way. Too much and the formula starts acting sticky and weird like a toddler that needs a nap.
Coconut Oil
INCI: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
A classic soapmaking oil we use for cleansing power, firmness, and bubbly lather in our bars. Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, especially lauric acid and myristic acid. We like it because it's useful, powerful, and not to be left unsupervised. In soap, it has to be balanced with other oils so the bar cleans without feeling like it has a personal vendetta.
Distilled Water
INCI: Aqua
Used in soapmaking and water-based formulas. Distilled water keeps the formula cleaner and more predictable than tap water.
Palm Oil
INCI: Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil
A soapmaking oil used to help build bar hardness, structure, and stable lather. Palm oil is rich in palmitic and oleic fatty acids. In our formulas, its job is practical: help the bar hold its shape, last longer, and behave like it has rent to pay.
Potassium Hydroxide
INCI: Potassium Hydroxide
Used to make liquid soap or softer soap pastes. Same deal: it is part of the soapmaking reaction, not something added for vibe
Sodium Hydroxide
INCI: Sodium Hydroxide
Used to make bar soap. During soapmaking, sodium hydroxide reacts with oils and butters to create soap. Fun fact: properly made finished soap does not contain active lye, and we go the extra step and superfat (add more oils than the lye will convert) our soaps by eight percent.
Sodium Lactate
INCI: Sodium Lactate
Used in bar soap to help with firmness and unmolding. Basically: it helps the bar get its act together.
Sugars, Salts, Clays, & Powders
Arrowroot Powder
INCI: Maranta Arundinacea Root Powder
Arrowroot powder is a soft plant starch used to improve texture and reduce greasy feel in body products. It helps oil-based formulas feel smoother, silkier, and less like you accidentally hugged a pizza box. We use it when a product needs a drier, more polished finish.
Activated Charcoal
INCI: Charcoal Powder
Activated charcoal powder is a fine black powder used in soap and body products for color, texture, and a clean, polished product look. It is commonly used in cosmetics for its absorbent properties, which makes it useful in formulas where we want a darker bar, a smoother feel, or a little extra “fresh start” energy. We do not claim it detoxes your life, your skin, your ex, or your inbox.
Baking Soda
INCI: Sodium Bicarbonate
Baking soda is one of the classic bath bomb ingredients. Paired with citric acid, it creates the fizz. In bath soaks, it can help soften the feel of bath water and give the product a smoother, silkier bath experience. We use it where we want fizz, bath feel, and general “tiny bathtub science experiment” behavior, provided you put the bath product IN the bath and not somewhere more questionable.
Citric Acid
INCI: Citric Acid
Citric acid is one half of the classic bath bomb fizz situation. When it meets baking soda in water, fizz happens. It can also be used in small amounts as a formula helper, depending on the product. In bath bombs and fizzy bath products, its main job is performance: make the product react, dissolve, and turn the bath into a tiny controlled incident.
Cocoa Powder
INCI: Theobroma Cacao
Cocoa powder is used mostly for natural color, scent character, and product personality. It can bring a soft brown tone and a chocolate-adjacent feel to certain formulas, especially dessert-inspired products. It also contains naturally occurring antioxidant-associated compounds, but in our products, we mostly use it because it looks good, smells good, and understands the assignment.
Cornstarch
INCI: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch
Cornstarch is used for softness, slip, and texture. It can help make powders, bath products, and body formulas feel smoother on the skin. Like arrowroot, it can help cut down on heavy or greasy feel in certain formulas. Practical, affordable, and not trying to win a personality contest.
Cream of Tartar
INCI: Potassium Bitartrate
Cream of tartar is used in some bath formulas as a texture and performance helper. In our bath bombs, it helps improve firmness and gives the finished product a smoother feel. It is not glamorous, but neither are spreadsheets, and those run the world.
Dead Sea Salt
INCI: Maris Sal
Dead Sea salt is a mineral-rich salt used in bath soaks and salt products. Because it contains naturally occurring minerals, we use it to elevated your mineral-bath feel from basic to intentionally luxe. We also grind this down to a finer texture and put it in our scrubby soap bars as a mild exfoliant.
Dendritic Salt
INCI: Sodium Chloride
Dendritic salt is a fine, porous salt used mostly as a formula helper. Its big trick is holding fragrance better than regular salt, which makes it useful in dry bath products like soaks, salts, and bath bombs. It's not here for glamour, it's here for logistics and we respect that.
Epsom Salt
INCI: Magnesium Sulfate
Epsom salt is used in bath soaks and salt-based products for mineral content, texture, and that classic soak experience. It dissolves into bath water and helps make the bath feel a little more intentional than “I'm sitting in warm water thinking about my inbox.” We're not claiming it fixes your entire body- we're just saying it belongs in a bath soak for a reason.
Kaolin Clay
INCI: Kaolin
Kaolin clay is a soft, gentle clay used in soap and body products for slip, texture, and a polished feel. In soap, it can help create a silkier glide. In scrubby or mask-style formulas, it adds a smooth clay texture without going full mud monster. We also use it as an absorbent, so it comes in clutch when we want a product to feel smoother and less greasy.
Oatmeal
INCI: Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Meal
We use oatmeal for gentle texture and a soft, comforting product feel. In soap and bath products, it adds mild physical exfoliation and a cozy, skin-friendly vibe without being aggressive. Oat-derived ingredients are commonly used in cosmetics as skin-conditioning agents, absorbents, and gentle abrasives, which is why oatmeal keeps showing up in products meant to feel soft, calm, and not dramatic.
Sugar
INCI: Sucrose
We use two types of sugar- turbinado and granulated white. Chemically, they're the same thing- sucrose, and sometimes we'll use one or the other as a humectant in bath stuff. Turbinado sugar is a coarse, golden sugar used in scrubs for physical exfoliation. It's scrubby, but not trying to sandblast your soul. Granulated white sugar is finer and works better when we want a smoother exfoliating texture, especially in lip scrubs. Sugar also dissolves in water, which makes it a useful exfoliant for rinse-off products instead of something that hangs around acting suspicious.
Formula Helpers
Aloe Juice
INCI: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
Used as a water-based ingredient in some formulas. It is commonly used in bath and body products for a soft, skin-friendly feel, but we keep the claims simple: in our products, it contributes to the overall formula feel. No miracle plant sermon required.as a water-based ingredient in some formulas. It is commonly used in bath and body products for a soft, skin-friendly feel, but we keep the claims simple: in our products, it contributes to the overall formula feel. No miracle plant sermon required.
Niacinamide
INCI: Niacinamide
Niacinamide is also known as Vitamin B3 and is used in skincare products, especially leave-on formulas, where it has a bigger job to do. If it appears in one of our rinse-off products, we treat it as part of the full ingredient profile, not as a dramatic skincare promise. We're not here to make soap act like a serum with delusions of grandeur.
Vegetable Glycerin
INCI: Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin is a humectant, which means it helps attract water. In bath and body products, it can improve slip, texture, and a more comfortable finished feel. It’s one of those practical ingredients doing useful work in the background like the responsible friend in the group chat.
Vitamin C
INCI: Ascorbic Acid
Vitamin C is commonly associated with antioxidant properties and is often used in skincare formulas. In our products, we only talk about what it contributes to the specific formula it appears in. No brightening, tightening, age-reversing circus act. Just the ingredient, doing its assigned job.
Vitamin E
INCI: Tocopheryl Acetate
Vitamin E is used as a formula-support ingredient, especially in oil-based products. It is commonly associated with antioxidant properties, and in our formulas, it helps support the quality and feel of oil-rich products. Tiny ingredient, big job.
Emulsifiers, Waxes, & Solubilizers
Emulsifying Wax NF
INCI: Emulsifying Wax NF
Helps oil and water behave in the same formula instead of immediately filing for divorce. We use it in products where creamy texture, stability, and a smooth finished feel matter.
Candelilla Wax
INCI: Euphorbia Cerifera Cera
A firm plant-based wax used to add structure and staying power to balm-style products. It helps formulas hold their shape without relying on beeswax, which makes it useful when we want a vegan-friendly wax option.
Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate
INCI: Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate
Sodium stearoyl lactylate is a formula helper used for emulsifying, texture, and feel. In bath and body products, it can help improve the way a formula comes together and can support a smoother, more elegant finished product.
Polysorbate 20
INCI: Polysorbate 20
Polysorbate 20 helps fragrance and lightweight oils disperse more evenly in water-based products. Basically, it encourages ingredients to mingle instead of floating around like they weren’t invited to the same party.
Polysorbate 80
INCI: Polysorbate 80
Polysorbate 80 is used in some bath products to help oils disperse more evenly in water. It helps reduce that little floating oil-slick situation, which is great because nobody asked their bath to cosplay as a parking lot puddle.
Preservatives & Product Safety
Isopropyl Alcohol
INCI: Isopropyl Alcohol
Used as a process helper in some bath products- we spray bath bomb mix with this to help them stick together in our press, then the alcohol evaporates out as they fizzies dry.
Liquid Germall Plus
INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate
Super Serious Stuff... if you're a mold spore. Germall is a preservative we use in water-containing formulas (and products that you'll keep in your shower with the lid off even though we say on the label to "keep tightly closed" to help keep the product stable and safer to use as directed.
